About Us

Overview

Hands On Chengdu's primary objective will be to work with Government agencies, local NGOs, international NGOs, and other social groups to provide a clearinghouse of semi-trained, long term, volunteers.  We will leverage our 20 years of experience in the United States and our 4 years of successful operation in Shanghai, to ensure that the long term needs of the affected communities can be met through the following three ways:

1) Coordinating volunteer opportunities between Government agencies, local NGOs, and international NGOs with a database of local, regional, and international volunteers

2) Provide the affected areas with a technical backbone, and a training platform, that will allow Government agencies, local NGOs, international NGOs the ability to recruit, train, and manage in a sustainable manner

3) Supporting local community organizations by providing a platform for direct donation outreach, fundraising planning and execution, community project design and implementation

History

Hands On Chengdu (HO-Chengdu) was founded following the Wenchuan earthquake that devastated northern Sichuan by members of Hands On Shanghai as a way to transfer the skills, training, and technology to create a
sustainable pool of volunteers that will work in the affected areas of Sichuan.

Mission

Hands On Shanghai's mission is to create a sustainable volunteer management platform in affected areas that will have a long term impact, and develop long term capacity within partners.

Strategy

Hands On Chengdu strives to establish and develop long term sustainable relationships with charities in Chengdu. Servicing the long term needs of our partners, we organize short-term projects that balance the schedules,
capabilities, interests of volunteers. Together, Hands On and its partner organizations create successful and well-staffed projects by allowing Hands on Chengdu to manage volunteers while the partner organizations manage the growth
and sustainability of their organizations

Projects

Project length and scope will vary.  We anticipate having programs that offer 1-2 days commitments, to projects that will require 6 month to 1 year commitments.  Our goal will be to work with NGOs to understand their needs
and then match appropriate volunteers
